1.   Find two quotations that portray the character of the protagonist.  Explain what the quotation reveals about the main character and the meaning of the work.

"First lesson. Stick them with the pointy end."

This shows that Lord Robb Stark is straight to the point and gets stuff done. He is giving a sword to his little sister and tells her this showing that he does not believe in formantes  and just wants to get stuff done.

"Tell Lord Tywin winter is coming for him that Twenty thousand northerners marching south to find out if he really does shit gold."

Robb Stark is shown as a man who will do as he says and puts his money were his mouth is. Robb was told by Lord Tywin take he should bend the knee and but Robb said “winter is coming” the motto of his house, getting straight to the point he will not take flak from any one.

2.   Create a personalized license plate for the protagonist, which may contain no punctuation marks or symbols and which consists of no more than seven letters, seven numbers, or a combination thereof.  Explain why your license plate is apt for the character.

NORTH

This license plate number is apt for the character as Robb stark is the king of the north. He is a staight to the point ruler who loves the land he comes from and would proudly show off the words north on everything he can.

There are no good aspects from Hecatommithi that are not already in the play, as Shakespeare clearly “ripped off” Hecatommithi. You can see by simply reading this story that there is no way Shakespeare did not read it and take some parts from it. Shakespeare has already taken all of the parts of the story, that would be great on stage, and put them on stage by plagiarizing. Shakespeare is clearly very good at knowing what parts to steal. The themes that are taken are as follows: lies are powerful also distrust can lead to downfall.  Lies are powerful is a phenomenal theme for Shakespeare to write a play on (and he did) because the truth of the statement is demonstrated by Iego continuously lying and driving wedges between people which causes them to distrust each other more but they trust Iego more due to his elaborate and well planned lies. They are shown to be powerful when people are convinced that the most logical thing to do is to kill, which is rarely the most logical thing to do. In conclusion, Shakespeare took the theme of lies as a powerful thing and wrote Othello. If you were looking for more things you could take and add to Shakespeare’s play as he has taken all the good parts from Hecatommithi.

What is the theme of this movie?  How do you know?  Write a declarative statement about the theme (what do we learn about the theme - don’t just write the theme; tell what we learn about it)

The theme of the movie is lies are power full and can lead to people’s demise. This is show not by one single act but by the whole story. By looking at the story as a whole you can see that lies can change the way people act. Hugo’s lies get O to kill D and himself. This shows that lies are powerful and can lead to demise, just not always your own demise.

What is/are the main conflict(s) in the movie?

The main conflict is that O lashing out at people around him. O is feed lie after lie after lie by Hugo; because of this O does things that don’t make any sense such as starting fights, lashing out at Desdemona, killing Desdemona and killing himself. Other than actions taken by O that have been listed nothing else really happens in the story. There for the main conflict of the movie is O lashing out at the people around him

What is the climax of the movie? Why do you believe this to be the climax?

The climax of the movie was near the end as he O killed D and himself. This is true because the rest of the movie was just set up and leading to this one point. Before this point there was a few small actions how ever they we all just lead up/setting up O taking his and Ds life. After this point nothing really happen, this one act touched almost every one in the movie at the same time. Also PEOPLE DIED at no other point did people died which is a pretty good point for it being a main conflict. In summation the climax of the movie is when O kills D then him self.

What are Hugo's motives; why does he manipulate the other characters?

Hugo’s motives are to try to take power and try to become the star player and gain his father's love, he manipulate others players to get them to do as he will and get rid of O. Hugo believes that if O is gone then his father will love him

Why might Odin be vulnerable to Hugo's actions?

Hugo is very vulnerable to Hugo’s actions because he is very alone being the only black student at the school; also being the top player on the team makes him a very public figure.

Find two quotations

“There are no heroes...in life, the monsters win.”

“When the snows fall and the white winds blow, the lone wolf dies but the pack survives.”

These two quotes speak volumes about the book. The first quote shows you that the setting is violent; as well the people in the story are often hopeless. They believe that heroes fail - it is the most vicious of the combatants that win. The second quotation shows that people are focused on being a part of a group, rather than being an individual.  The people of “A song of Ice and Fire” feel that, if they are pushed out by their group they will not live long when things go off the deep end; so, all the major player of the story are on a side and spend most of their time making sure their side is in check and they will not become a “Lone wolf”. These quotes show the incurably violent setting that is every changing and hopeless.

Four objects that affect the setting of the book are, The Wall, The iron thrones, the swords and, Moat Caitlin. The wall affects the book by changing the way people look at the north, it also creates the night watch which is a standing army that all sides in a kingdom must pay to maintain; the wall keeps all sides of the fight aware that there are greater forces at play then themselves. The iron thrones is the symbol of power in the realm; whomever it is that hold the thrones is the one who seems to be the rightful king of the realm. By merely being of the thrones it creates something for all sides to fight for even though it’s not really worth anything other than as a symbol. Moat Caitlin is one object that affects the setting by making it so that the whole of the North can be held by just by from this one small place, the army of the north how ever small can throw back far greater host this give the north a far greater level of safety. Sword is one object that changes the setting and the story more then anything else, they set up the power sturcer, they much up the groups and make people act the way there do, they are as much a part of the setting as mounts, oceans, rivers or cities. In summation The Wall, The iron thrones, the swords and, Moat Caitlin are 4 huge parts of the setting in A song of ice and fire.
